Hosted Desktop UK - Your office anywhere

Hosted Desktop UK (HDUK) has recently been awarded the Cyber Essentials Scheme’s Certificate of Assurance, backed by the UK Government, which demonstrates the company’s commitment to providing clients with a secure cloud-based service.

The Cyber Essentials Scheme, launched by the Government and developed in partnership with the IT industry, provides a clear statement of the basic controls all organisations should implement to mitigate the risk from common internet-based threats. The initiative falls within the context of the Government’s 10 Steps to Cyber Security, a set of guidelines published in 2012 by GCHQ to try and alleviate the threat to UK businesses that occurs on a daily basis.

With the majority of HDUK’s customers operating in the accounting and legal professions, security and confidentiality is of paramount importance. Karen Purdy, of Purdy’s Solicitors, an HDUK customer, was reassured by the service they received, saying: “In such a heavily regulated industry, I had concerns that a cloud-based server would not be secure. However, my fears were eliminated, as HDUK had vast knowledge of the legalities governing the legal profession, particularly confidentiality, as well as in terms of my specific business needs. HDUK reassured me regarding the security of the system for confidentiality, compliance and safeguarding documents for the continuity of my practice.”

Adam Chetnik, Managing and Technical Director of HDUK, says: “The World Economic Forum cited the UK as having the best developed e-commerce in the world, but with greater openness, interconnection and dependency comes greater vulnerability. HDUK understands that security is the most important aspect of our service and the certificate is great validation of our continued efforts to protect our 600+ clients.”

The significant security measures that HDUK has implemented to protect its cloud service is both physical and digital. Physically, the company stores its data in two of Europe’s most secure data centres – ‘The Bunker’ in Newbury, Berkshire and another in Ash, Kent. The facilities in the data centres are state-of-the-art, nuclear bomb-proof and have previously served as Ministry of Defence and US Air Force command and control centres. Both have also benefitted from millions of pounds of additional investment in power and cooling, which ensures a resilient and secure environment.

Digitally, the company uses data encryption for all transmissions over the internet, uses an enterprise grade firewall on its network and has unique password allocation for users. Data also remains within the confines of the UK, with customers’ business data never leaving the secure hosted desktop environment.

The company has outlined its security measures in a digestible infographic, which is available on the HDUK website, providing transparency to existing and potential customers. To view the infographic and to find out more information please visit
